Human Trafficking Prevention Month: Shine a light on the Shadows

Human Trafficking Prevention Month: Shine a light on the Shadows

As the world ushers in a new year, January takes on a profound significance beyond resolutions and fresh beginnings. It is designated as Human Trafficking Prevention Month, and, I must add, Cervical Cancer Prevention Month.

Subsequently, the dedication exists to raise awareness about one of the most appalling crimes that does affect our society. In this blog post, we discuss Human Trafficking Prevention Month and discuss The National Human Trafficking Hotline Resource.

The Silent Pandemic

Human trafficking, often referred to as a silent pandemic, is a sinister crime that exploits individuals for forced labor, sexual exploitation, and/or various forms of modern-day slavery.

Also, this pervasive issue knows no borders, affecting millions of men, women, and children worldwide. January being the designated month to address this crisis arises from the urgent necessity to unveil the hidden shadows where these crimes unfold.

If you see something, say something. Call the hotline.

National Human Trafficking Hotline

Notably, the National Human Trafficking Hotline exists to provide support victims of human trafficking.

The hotline received over 51,000 substantive calls in 2021 regarding human trafficking in the United States. (2021 data)

Accordingly, you can call the hotline at (888)-373-7888 or you can text the hotline 233733.

If you know something, say something.

The Designation

January, as Human Trafficking Prevention Month, symbolizes a new beginning and collective commitment to combating this pervasive crime. In addition, this impactful designation was founded on the principle that awareness is a powerful catalyst for change.

Seeing as the Trafficking Victims Protection Act was passed in the year 2000, the U.S. government played a pivotal role in its establishment. Since then, Human Trafficking Awareness Month is titled such as a poignant reminder that the fight against human trafficking requires a united front, transcending borders and ideologies.
