Golden Radish Application Assistance

Golden Radish Application Assistance

From 2014 through 2019, Georgia Organics, with the Georgia Departments of Agriculture, Early Care and Learning, Education, and Public Health and UGA Extension, celebrated Georgia Farm to School best practices with the Golden Radish Award. The Golden Radish Award was given to Georgia Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) who were doing extraordinary work in Farm to School.

Ten criteria points served as a framework to guide districts in the creation of comprehensive farm to school programs. Requirements are adjusted according to school district size, and awards ranged from Honorary for achievement of one criteria and Platinum for excellence in all ten. LEA applications were led by the school nutrition directors and staff, who were recognized by the leaders of Georgia’s state agencies and Georgia Organics each October.

Community Health Works, when the Golden Radish Award was still being given, assisted schools school districts through technical application assistance to highlight and celebrate Farm to School initiative implementation.
