Community Health Works and the Mulberry Market presents the local Third Bi-Annual Healthy Resturant Challenge.
The competition is designed to challenge restaurants to encourage healthier choices, cook seasonally, and produce an award winning, healthy dish! For one week, local restaurants will feature at least one healthy menu item of their choice for patrons to order. This menu item should also be inspired by what's in season.
We hope this competition will inspire more restaurants to cook seasonally because there are numerous health benefits to eating foods that are in season. A food that is in season is at its peak in flavor and nutrition. Not only does it taste better, but it is also more affordable. When food is grown in its proper season, the crops are more abundant, less time-intensive, and as a result are often more affordable for consumers.
Locally, we encourage the restaurants and consumers to get inspired at the Mulberry Market! As a year-round market, through each passing season you will find a wide array of local farmers and producers who offer fresh fruits and vegetables that are all locally-grown and at their peak in flavor. The Mulberry Market is held every Wednesday from 3:30-6:00pm at Mulberry Street Park in downtown Macon.
