Tickets on Sale for Farm to Table Benefit Dinner

(Macon, Ga.)  Health Care Central Georgia Inc. d/b/a Community Health Works (CHW) and The Moonhanger Group will host a Farm to Table Benefit Dinner on Monday, April 8th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at The Armory Ballroom.  The dinner will feature an elegant four-course menu prepared with fresh, locally-grown and raised seasonal items harvested from the Mulberry Market.

Community Health Works has partnered with Bibb County 4-H to host a Silent Auction at the benefit dinner.  Proceeds from the Silent Auction will directly benefit the Bibb County Cooperative Extensions’ youth development program.

Tickets for the Farm to Table Dinner are now on sale and can be purchased for $50/ticket through Community Health Works’ website at www.chwg.org.  Tickets will include two cocktails, your choice of entrée, and dessert.  All proceeds will be benefit the Mulberry Market and CHW’s Wholesome Wave Georgia program.

As the manager for the Mulberry Market, CHW is committed to supporting sustainable, local agriculture as a way of improving the health of Central Georgia by making higher quality, healthy, locally produced food available to all residents regardless of socio-economic factors.  Through a partnership with Wholesome Wave Georgia, CHW has increased the market’s capacity to offer a double-value coupon program for SNAP beneficiaries (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).  Essentially, the market accepts Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards and offers a matching dollar incentive for consumers to purchase fresh, healthy foods.   In addition to the health benefits of increasing access to affordable and nutritious foods, the local farmers also experience the economic impacts of the $2 for $1 matching program.

In 2012, the market reached over $12,000 in EBT sales requiring a fifty percent match totaling over $24,000.  As a partner market for Wholesome Wave, CHW is responsible for providing this dollar-for-dollar match to the Mulberry Market through progressive fundraising and promotion. This benefit dinner will help raise funds to enable the sustainment of this important community program.

The Moonhanger Group is passionate about the farm to table movement and is one corporation that believes in the benefit of purchasing local and recirculating business into the local economy.  Along with the Armory Ballroom, the Moonhanger Group owns the Rookery and Dovetail, two favored restaurants in downtown Macon.

The Moonhanger Group’s newest restaurant, Dovetail, offers an entirely farm to table dining experience prepared by Chef Doug Sanneman.  Dovetail was inspired by the concept of supporting a sustainable, community-based food system while providing customers with food that is fresh, healthy and at its peak in flavor.  As a local advocate and champion for the Mulberry Market, the Moonhanger Group is proud to align with CHW for this fundraiser and provide their catering and event services.
